I. Overview

Welcome to the School of International Cruise and Yacht (SICSY).

The School of International Cruise and Yacht (SICSY) was established in November, 2019, one of the main schools of Guangzhou Maritime University (GMU). Presently, SICSY has Cruise Ship Department, Yacht Department, one experimental center, two research organizations, the Coastal Leisure and Tourism Research Center, and the China ASEAN(Association of Southeast Asian Nations) think tank network maritime cooperation base as well. Now SICSY offers two undergraduate majors –the Tourism Management and the Cruise Engineering and Management. And the major, the Tourism Management was approved as one of featuring majors of Guangdong provincial universities and College Undergraduate Quality Engineering in 2019.

The School of International Cruise Ship and Yacht has 520 students, an energetic and passionate teaching team of 14 full-time teachers, 2 laboratory technicians and 2 counselors. Among the full-time teachers, there are 2 professors, 8 lecturers, 5 teaching assistants, and 8 of the 14 full-time teachers are double qualified teachers and it is specially worth mentioning that Professor Wang Xinhui won the title of Guangdong Provincial Outstanding Educator and Teacher. As the teachers’ qualification is mentioned, two Doctoral degree holders and 12 master’s degree holders comprise the teaching team. Besides, SICSY has employed altogether 9 executives from enterprises related, and researcher-level senior technicians, or senior engineers as part-time teachers to strengthen the course teaching and practical teaching.

Presently, SICSY has one cruise engineering laboratory, one teaching and training yacht, 17 laboratories and 9 off-campus practice bases shared with other schools of the University. All these facilities can meet the requirements of professional, experimental and practical teaching activities.

SICSY is founded in accordance with GMU’s education and discipline development plan and with the mission to meet the requirements of the national and Guangdong coastal tourism development strategy and the growing social demand, to serve the local economic construction and social development, and so as to cultivate high-quality applied talents.







II. Undergraduate Programs

1. Tourism ManagementInternational Cruise Management

Training objectives:

This major aims to cultivate students’ all-round development of morality, intelligence, physique and beauty, to train students to have solid basic theoretical knowledge, strong practical ability, active innovative and entrepreneurial thinking, high comprehensive quality, good ideological and moral quality, high foreign language level, the domian knowledge of Tourism, Navigation, Economics, Management and the cruise tourism operation management and be able to work in cruise companies, travel agency enterprises and units related to cruise ship tourism.

Training Standards:

Those who can pass the 4-year training will be awarded a bachelor's degree in Management.

Main courses:

Principles of Management, Principle of Economics, Leisure Studies, Tourism, Tourism Marketing, Tourism E-commerce, Tourism Human Resource Management, Hotel Management, Tour Guide Operation, Cruise Ship English, Cruise Tourism Operation Management, Travel Agency Management, Tourism Activity Planning and Management, Tourism Laws and Regulations, etc.

2. Tourism ManagementYachts Leisure Management

Training objectives:

This major aims to cultivate students’ all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique and beauty, to train students to have solid basic theoretical knowledge, strong practical ability, active innovative and entrepreneurial thinking, high comprehensive quality and to have a good command of the professional knowledge of management, economics, tourism, yacht leisure and management so as to be able to work in yacht clubs, yacht leisure tourism enterprises.

Training Standards:

Those who can pass the 4-year training will be awarded a bachelor’s degree in management.

Main courses:

Principles of Management, Principle of Economics, Leisure Studies, Tourism, Navigation, Tourism Marketing, Tourism E-commerce, Hotel Management, Tourism Human Resource Management, Yacht Club Management, Yacht Marketing Practice, Nautical Meteorology and Oceanography, Water Sports Technology (Sailing, Diving, Life Saving, etc.), Planning and Management of Leisure Activities and Tourism Real Estate and Yacht Real Estate, etc.

3. Cruise Ship Engineering and Management

Training objectives:

This major aims to cultivate students’ all-round development in morality, intelligence, physique beauty and diligence and to train students to obtain solid theoretical basis, strong abilities in engineering practice, technological innovation and teamwork so as to make the students become practical personnels with cruise ship technology and management and good professional ethics and strong sense of social responsibility in order to meet great demand for cruise shipping talents from Guangdong Province, Hong Kong, Macao and the Big Bay area in accordance with the national construction of maritime power and “The Belt and Road” initiative.

Training Standards:

Those who can pass the four-year training will be awarded a Bachelor of degree of engineering.

Main courses:

University Computer Basis, Engineering Drawing, Engineering Mechanics, Engineering Materials, Thermal Engineering and Hydrodynamics, Electrical and Electronic Technology, Automatic Control Principle, Mechanical Design Basis, Hydraulic and Pneumatic Technology, Cruise Ship Electrical Equipment, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology, Elevator Principle and Maintenance, Heating and Water Supply and Drainage, Fire Protection and Security System, Cruise Ship Management, Cruise Ship Engineering English, Spoken English of Cruise Ship Engineering, etc.

III. Faculty

Wang Xinhui: School Dean

Prof. Xinhui WANG, the dean of the school, presides over the administration of the school. Besides, He is also in charge of discipline construction, development planning, scientific research, international exchange and cooperation, quality system and student employment after graduation, political security and ideology, confidentiality and the construction of teachers.

Chen Chi: Party Secretary

Mr. Chi CHEN, Party Secretary of the school, presides over the work of the school Party Committee. In addition, he is in charge of Party construction, political security and ideology, publicity, united front work, trade unions, ideology and politics, confidentiality, construction of teaching staff and student employment after graduation.

Qu Jin: Vice Dean

Prof. Jin QU, the vice dean of the school, takes charge of undergraduate teaching and training, student practice and training, laboratory construction and management, off-campus practice base construction and management, quality system, academic discipline construction, undergraduate education evaluation and student employment after graduation.






IV. Facilities

Introduction to Yacht Laboratory

1. Overview of Yacht Laboratory

Guanghang-I is one third-class yacht in coastal navigation area. She is berthing at the yacht dock of Changzhou Island, Huangpu District, Guangzhou.

2. Introduction to Yacht Laboratory

In order to enhance students to apply the theories into practice, our school built one new yachtGuanghang-Ifor students' experimental activities in 2020. The Guanghang-I is a high-performance teaching yacht laboratory with two oars, two rudders and two diesel engines as the main engines.

Introduction to Cruise Ship Engineering Laboratory

1. Laboratory Overview

Cruise Ship Engineering Laboratory is a professional laboratory, covering an area of about 100 square meters, with a total investment of 2.5 million RMB. The laboratory was put into use in January 2020.

The Cruise Engineering Laboratory is built to meet the practical and teaching demand of the specialty of Cruise Ship Engineering and Management, and the courses requirements of the Electrical and Electronic Technology, the Cruise Ship Electrical Equipment, the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technology, the Cruise Ship Engineering Equipment Management, regarding the requirements of the overhaul, the installation, the adjustment, the maintenance and the repair of the common electromechanical equipment in the intelligent control of cruise ship cabin, the cruise operation management system, the safety system, the internal communication system, the network line, the air conditioning as well.

In addition, the lab is built to meet the training and teaching requirements of marine ETO (electro-technical operator) and marine engineers.







V. Academics&Scientific Research

Baesd on the coastal leisure and tourism research center and the China ASEAN think tank network maritime cooperation base, the school is developing the projects of the water leisure and tourism on cruise ship and yachts, the optimization of tourism and traffic management, China ASEAN maritime tourism cooperation, the equipment maintenance technology of cruise ship and yacht engineering, and planning the cruise ship terminal, the cruise ship tourism route, the cruise ship economy, and the sailing , etc.





VI. International Cooperation

International Exchange and Cooperation

The school has an intention of cooperating with internationally renowned universities on the projects of the “3+2” undergraduate and postgraduate joint education, in the forms of the exchange of visiting scholars, the student credit mutual recognition, and the exchange of students, etc.
