    Welcome to Guangzhou Maritime University (GMU).

    GMU, organized and sponsored by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, is located in Guangzhou, a coastal city by the South China Sea, and is the only and independent maritime undergraduate university in South China. GMU has currently two campuses in Huangpu and in Pazhou, nearby the historically-well-known Huangpu Military Academy and one of the starting points of the Maritime Silk Road in ancient China, Huangpu Ancient Port, respectively.

     Currently GMU runs 13 teaching sectors such as School of Navigation, School of Marine Engineering, School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, and School of Port and Shipping Management, etc. and 25 undergraduate programs for bachelor’s degree programs such as navigation technology, marine engineering, marine electrical and electronic engineering, transportation engineering and logistics engineering, etc.. GMU has nearly 13,000 full-time students.

     GMU has a highly-qualified faculty of 602 full-time teachers, 229 of whom are with senior professional titles, 54 of whom are professors and 460 of whom hold postgraduate diplomas or degrees. GMU has superior condition for internship and practical training, with 17 cross-major public laboratories, 94 specialized laboratories and a total value for 127 million Chinese Yuan for teaching and research equipment. GMU has owned an on-campus internship factory as practice facility and a water training center. GMU has also developed a comprehensive university-level group of internship bases encircling the Pearl River Estuary, which cover totally 87 contracted internship bases.

     GMU has always attached much importance to the process of internationalization, has promoted communication and cooperation with around 50 universities or education groups in nearly 20 countries or regions and has signed cooperation agreements or memos with some of the above institutions in terms of research, teaching and exchange in teachers and students. The GMU-Southampton Solent University maritime research centre(a joint Sino-UK maritime research centre) was founded in 2013, which has established a platform of communication for teachers and research staff on both sides.

     Looking forward to the future, GMU will stick to the schooling philosophy “Cultivation in Moral Composition, Learning for Practice, Reinforcement from Service and Development with specialization”, will abide by the internationalization, standardization and national defense image of marine education, and will strive to build itself into a famous maritime university or that of communications with distinguished maritime features both at home and abroad, according to the economic and social development strategies of the State and Guangdong Province.
