I. Overview
The Seafarer Training Center is the training base for high-skilled marine personnel in Guangdong Province, and the main base for seafarer training of the Guangdong Maritime Safety Administration of the Ministry of Transport. It has 25 seafarer training qualifications, including captain, chief engineer, chief officer, and second engineer, which is the training base with most comprehensive programs and completest structure in south China. The center has advanced teaching equipment and scientific research facilities, comprising the NTPRO 4000 full-duty ship handling simulator imported from British Shipping Company Transas, the marine engine simulator training room whose simulation prototype is the fifth generation modern container ship New Qingdao as well as well-equipped teaching buildings, libraries, standard track and field, swimming pools, factories attached, and water training bases that meet the training needs. In recent years, the center has trained more than 5,000 student and various social seafarers every year, and has gained a good reputation in the industry.
In order to strengthen the seafarer training, in February 2020, GMU established the Navigation Education and Training (Zhongshan) Base of Guangzhou Maritime University. The construction of the base is a positive exploration of the social resources and school-running cooperation, which plays an active and important role in promoting our training work and enhancing our social influence in navigation education and training in south China. The base makes full use of good geographical conditions and university resources to carry out navigation competency training, sailor mechanic training, yacht operator training, and navigation skills certification training, etc.. At the same time, it builds a water sports center, under the guidance of local maritime safety bureaus and industry associations to organize and carry out various activities such as navigation skill water sports, sailing, rowing and so on.
The Seafarer Training Center established a quality management system in 1999, obtaining the Seafarer Education and Training Quality System Certificate(certificate number: KAK6004) issued by the State Maritime Safety Administration, and passing the ISO9000 international quality management system identification.
