Department of Basic Courses

I. Overview

Established in 2016, the Department of Basic Courses is composed by three disciplines( Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Chinese Subjects). Our department is a teaching unit that mainly undertakes public basic courses after the adjustment of schools and departments. Since then, Chemistry Subjects ,Music and Dance Courses, Literature Retrieval, Mental Health Courses, Health Care Curriculum Gradually merged into this department.

Since its establishment, under the guidance of Xi Jinping Educational Thought of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, all staff of the department have been forging ahead with determination and innovation under the great attention and support of the University Party Committee.

After five years hard work, the department has achieved rich teaching and scientific research achievements, providing solid theoretical support and humanistic quality guarantee for the construction and development of first-class specialties and disciplines in the university.

I. Courses

At present, we offer 10 compulsory subjects and 16 elective courses, totaling 26 courses. Preliminary formed the basis of comprehensive, liberal arts have both public course system,the details are as follows:

III. Faculty  

Constructing the troops of teacher is a pivotal matter of department construction. Under the support of our school, we have 52 full-time faculty members, including 6 professors, 9 associate professors, 11 doctors. The age of this teachers is relatively balanced, the structure of professional title is reasonable, and the discipline is relatively balanced.

Based on the specification and pursuing for innovation, we start to carry out a series of educational reform to improve the students’ comprehensive qualities. There are teaching practice such as layered teaching and individualized quality education in our school. Also, there are excellent teams which lead our students to take part in various mathematics tournament and guide them to take part in our math practice to improve their ability of applying mathematics. Besides, there is a mathematical help center which is for helping our students to learn math.

Our department not only actively support our teachers to develop their professional discipline and be serious and pragmatic at work, but also organizes a series of colorful department activities during spare time. Our department is a big family which is unity upward, forge ahead and spirited.

IV. Facilities  

At present, we have 7 standard university physics laboratories, covering an area of more than 700 square meters, with a total value of more than 2.4 million yuan and 600 sets of instruments and equipments. These experiments include mechanics, electricity, optics, heat and computer-aided teaching system, which can provide teaching services for students of various engineering majors. A relatively complete and relatively scientific practical teaching system has been initially formed. On this basis, we have made a good teaching effect.

V. Academics&scientific research

Based on the actual situation of teaching and researching, our staffs unity cooperation, positive enterprising, in recent years won more than 10 provincial and municipal scientific research projects, nearly 40 school scientific research subjects. Since 2016, we have published a total of 90 papers of various kinds (including 6 core papers, 22 SCI-papers, 2 EI-papers and 55 general papers).Department for teaching and scientific researching ability get larger ascension.

Since 2017, we have actively guided students to participate in the university Student Mathematics Competition, Teddy Cup, Mathematical Modeling Competition and other activities. In 2019, we achieved a major breakthrough in the first prize of the national competition.

Up to now, we have won 1 first prize, 3 second prizes and 6 third prizes in Guangdong Province of National College Students Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The National Mathematics Competition for College Students won 2 first prizes, 2 second prizes and 10 third prizes; One second prize and five third prizes of Mathematics Competition for College Students in Guangdong Province; Second prize of Instrumental Music Competition for College students in Guangdong Province.

We have published several textbooks such as Advanced Mathematics and University Physics Experiment.
